The Wenchang Hall is the study quarter of the Mandarin's House. It has a moon gate that over looks the main garden. Plasterwork couplets and ornaments decorate the doorway. The master's aspirations in his descendents can be read in a combination of imageries such as musical instrument, chess, scrolls and paintings identified on some of the decorative artwork.
The main garden is connected to the Wenchang Hall. The original appearance of the garden is not known. However, based on remnants of cobblestones recovered inside the garden, this area is repaved. In the old days of Macao, cobblestones were not only used as a paving material for roads, but also inside private residences, such as here in the garden of the Mandarin's House.
